Review – Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

My most anticipated game for years, and oddly one of the most controversial games released recently (at least on my radar), Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been out a over a month now. I had early access and got to begin playing the game before regular players – and I am still playing, and loving, the game.

In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, you get to play as one of four (at the beginning) Task Force X members – Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Boomerang – recruited by Amanda Waller to try to save the world. Why would they need your band of misfits to fight Brainiac? Well, it seems he’s taken control of the Justice League. And the only way to deal with them and save Earth – kill the Justice League.

The story is fantastic, in my opinion. I love the explanations of why we have the traversal movement we do for each character, the comedy and banter between the squad and other characters, and the ways we have to come up with to take out the Justice League. But there is also a lot of heart, some tear jerking moments, and some absolutely terrifying moments of game play.

It picks up later down the line of the Batman: Arkham game series, but don’t expect to be playing in a constantly dark city as Batman. You have individual characters with their own skills, movement, weapons, etc. You’re in Metropolis, not Gotham. But there are bits of story and dialogue that reference back to the previous games.

Harley Quinn herself is at one of her most shining appearances. She’s fun, but also serious and brave. She’s good for goofing around, making silly jokes, but also smart and one of the first squad members ready to take on a fight every time. She can hold her own and then some. The performance Tara Strong gives is easily one of my favorites of her many times as Harley.

And everything we have so far is just the beginning. While we wait for March 28th – the debut of season one and the next playable character, the Joker – we can work on our Mastery levels, Finite Crisis levels, and getting out Squad to peak form.

I have been obsessed with this game. Sure, it’s had it’s bugs, but what games don’t? And the devs are working on patches for anything new that happens at any point. My personal score for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? 10/10. Easily my favorite game in some time. And the Harley elements of it are definitely 10/10.
