Warning: Story spoilers ahead for anyone that hasn’t played the game. But it’s honestly very possible angry bros on the internet spoiled it for you already, so read at your own risk.

Now, I know we’re all still mourning the loss of my personal favorite Batman – Kevin Conroy. And Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was his last performance as the dark knight before his passing. This was obviously going to open some wounds for those of us that never wanted to lose him, But for some people, they seemed to take things in the game too personally.

I mean, imagine being upset that a game called KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE would involve…. killing the Justice League. Shocker.
But somehow, the game released, and the never ending complaint (and thing I’ve gotten threats over, oddly enough) about Batman being killed by Harley Quinn began. People mad she did it. People mad someone “as insignificant” could kill Batman. People mad that this game wasn’t another Batman game. Hey, I loved the Arkham Games, too. But it’s okay to try new things, guys.

Now let me make the internet mad and defend the fact Harley Quinn took down and killed Batman.
It has been established for a long, long time (almost as long as Harley has been around) that she is a capable character that Batman admits can outsmart him and take him down. Take, for example, Mad Love and the Death of 1000 Smiles, which is even referenced in the game:

“Don’t put him in an elaborate death trap – trust me.”
The only reason she failed to kill Batman in that episode was because of the Joker’s ego.
And that was Kevin’s Batman.
Same with Batman: Arkham City (Harley Quinn’s Revenge) – which was this same universe, and again – Kevin’s Batman. She captured Batman.

It was not something far-fetched.
And furthermore, as Harley also says after the deed is done:
“This is how he would have wanted it – the real Batman.”

The King of Contingency plans himself was ready to take out the Justice League, including himself, if they were ever corrupted or turned on mankind. Harley knew this. Harley understood this. Killing Batman was a necessary action and he would have wanted her, or whatever “hero” had to step up, to do it. At least he died at her hands.
While it is tragic to lose Kevin, and lose this iconic Batman of his, Kevin knew what happened to his character and gave his blessing by giving his performance. So, like Batman, let the controversy die.
