I was ecstatic when Lady Gaga was announced as the newest live action actor for Harley Quinn. I remember years ago, after seeing the Bad Romance music video, telling friends at the time that it had a very Harley Quinn vibe to it – granted, this was back when almost no one knew who Harley was, so they just took my word for it.

But, we aren’t here to talk about Joker: Folie à Deux, exactly.
I wanted to take a moment to document how absolutely astonishing it is for us as Harley Quinn fans to have a concept album from a huge pop star dedicated to and inspired by our girl.
Yes, Harlequin is a companion album to the movie soundtrack. And yes, a lot of the songs are her performing covers used in the movie. But consider how profound of an influence Harley had on Gaga that she couldn’t be done with that character just yet.

“I had such a deep relationship with Lee,” she said. “And when I was done filming the movie, I wasn’t done with her.”
Whether you loved Joker: Folie à Deux or not, whether you enjoy her companion album or not – you have to appreciate the influence of Harley Quinn, and how incredible it is for us as fans that she went from a character hardly anyone knew until Suicide Squad (2016) when she burst into the mainstream pop culture scene, to inspiring an album.
What a time to be a Harley Quinn fan.
