I did a big, gushy post about how much I adored Batman: White Knight (The Brilliance of Batman: White Knight), and about Harley’s relationships within Batman: Curse of the White Knight. So, naturally – it’s time to talk about Batman White Knight Presents Harley Quinn.

This is easily one of the most humanizing approaches to Harley Quinn I’ve read, and I absolutely adored every page of it. There was a lot of consideration to her character, what she would do, what her fans would enjoy, etc. We were gifted with a backstory to her relationship with the Joker that made it so much more easy to fathom why she’d stay, and why she’d be so determined to try to save Jack.

But not only that, we have a beautiful story about a mother. She’s struggling, not only with post-partum depression, being a single mom, and keeping everything together, but with finding her identity in this new role. To make matters worse, the GTO has asked her to consult on a new serial killer in Gotham. Finding a balance between the Harley she was, Dr. Quinzel, and the new title of “Mom”, is something she continuously struggles with. Who are you when everyone else needs you to be so many other things?

There are correlations between the present killer in Gotham to Harley’s own sordid and complicated past. It’s so beautifully told, with the perfect pacing to keep you guessing but the tension still driving it forward.

But it also tears at your heart. How lost Harley feels is relatable on so many levels. But not only that, there’s A LOT that happens in this series that really leaves you stunned. Trust me. You don’t want it spoiled.

But the story isn’t the only thing about this series. The art is breathtaking. Matteo Scalera brings his own style to the book, while keeping the feel of Sean Murphy’s White Knight universe. The colors by Dave Stewart are perfect. The lettering from Andworld Design is flawless.

Besides all of this very compelling information, I must add: Harley loves crab rangoon. And so do I. So. Naturally. This wins it 10,000,000 bonus points.
